Tough Defeat yesterday for the lads, a game we felt we chucked away ourselves with errors.
With a new side we’re still working out a style of play. We’re a ball playing team & we do want to play football, we’ve got the quality to do so.
Unfortunately, all 3 goals have come from 3 mistakes in defence when trying to play out from the back.
Thames united were a quality side & I think both sides have walked away from yesterday with a level of respect for each other.
We’ve gone 1-0 up early with another goal for Frampton.
We found ourselves on the front foot & quickly had a chance to go 2-0 up that was missed.
They’re the ones you look back on & think about until the next game !
We then shipped 2 goals in quick succession from mistakes at the back to go 2-1 down.
The football went out the window for us for a period, seemed like we starting playing long ball football which didn’t suit us.
Going into the second half we shortly found ourselves victim to another goal, from our own mistake again.
The boys showed some great desire to nick the 2nd back which came from a free kick from inside our own half rattling the crossbar that Davison was quick to react & finish.
The 3rd goal obviously never came, it felt like it was going to come but the clock was working double time & we just had no time left.
In the end I think if we nicked the draw we could walk away quite positively knowing it was our mistakes that dropped us the points.
But to come away with nothing really is a difficult one to take.
Credit to Thames united, great side & the intensity of the game was a credit to both sides.
We’ll look forward to playing them again at home later on in the season.
It’s a great learning curve for the lads as at this level our mistakes can be so costly.
Ultimately Thames united finished their chances extremely well, there was still a lot to do after the initial mistake from us.
So sometimes you have to hold your hands up & say fair play !
Back again in the cup on Saturday which allows us to take our mind off the league table & hopefully
Kick off a cup run !
